6th Grade

2nd row middle.

In 6th grade I had another fabulous teacher, Mrs. Barnes. She was strict, but fun and inspiring.  She gave me a unique award, “quietest speaking voice.”  I ran for student-body vice president that year.  Every time I ran for office I was required to perform a skit and make posters for my campaign.  For my skit that year, I changed the lyrics of “The Super Bowl Shuffle.” and had my friends perform it with me.  (Check it out…Chicago Bears 1985.)  A really cute boy moved into our ward/school that year.  All the girls seemed to have a crush on him.  He asked me to be in the talent show with him.  We lip synced, “I Wanna Be a Cowboy” together.  He asked me to “go with him.”  But I told him no, because I didn’t want to be just like every other girl who swooned over him.  In 6th grade I played softball.  I usually hit first or 3rd in the rotation and played short-stop.  I was usually good for a base hit and had a good arm. (thanks dad, our hours of practice paid off.)   I also started training more frequently and for longer hours in gymnastics.  I improved and started competing at the class 3 level. I was putting so much time into gymnastics that I stopped taking piano lessons. (big mistake)

Some time around the 6th grade my dad bought some used ski equipment and took us all to learn how to ski.  We would mostly go night skiing at Nordic Valley.  I hated being cold, but was glad my dad was willing and able to take us skiing.
